How to Get a Handicap

If you were a member during the previous calendar year at another affiliated club, you can transfer your handicap to Kanturk Golf Club on production of a Handicap Certificate from your previous club. If you never had a handicap, or your handicap has lapsed, you will need to get a new handicap. In order to obtain a handicap you must submit 3 x 18 Hole Cards which have been signed by a valid marker. A marker is one who is appointed by the Committee to record a competitor’s score in stroke play. He may also be a fellow-competitor. He is not a referee. A valid marker for marking a card in this instance is another member that has a valid handicap. He/She can mark your card outside of competition.

IMPORTANT: Wait until you have completed the 3 cards, clip them together and put them in an envelope and mark it ‘For Handicap’. If you have your GUI/ILGU number then write it on the card also. The cards should then be placed in the competition box at the entrance to the locker room. You cannot play in competitions until you have attained a club handicap.

Once your handicap is registered you will receive a Golfnet swipe card from the Golf Union of Ireland through the clubs handicap secretary. This card contains a unique 8 digit number (your GUI/ILGU number) which identifies you. The card holds your details including your handicap. When you are playing in competitions, whether in Kanturk or away you must swipe this card in the card reader or else enter your 8 digit number to enter the competition.

You can at any stage logon to www.golfnet.ie and find updates on your handicap.

Should you have any queries on your handicap, please contact our handicap secretaries, for Ladies Nuala Meade 087 9615189 or for Mens Richard Philpott 087 6676545
